Not far from the train station in Michendorf, Brandenburg, a residential complex for senior citizens, buildings for care services and a daycare center are being built – the Johanniter Quarter. To ensure that people can live and play there undisturbed in future, RAU® is erecting a green noise barrier, RAU® Climatewall, which will be planted with over 600 plants.
Soundproofing and shade for children and senior citizens
During the planning of the Johanniter Quarter, the Environmental Agency prepared an expert opinion on the noise level and the expected traffic noise. The result was that it would not be possible to adhere to the noise guidelines, especially at night. Thanks to the green noise barrier from RAU®, two birds are killed with one stone: the noise barrier keeps out traffic noise and provides pleasant shade for senior citizens and children, especially in summer.
Green noise protection for people and the environment
The green noise barrier from RAU® is not only a blessing for the people who will live or be cared for in the residential complex in the future. At the moment, the noise barrier is still bare. It consists of a metal frame, felt mats and a lot of soil and is eight meters high. But soon it will be completely overgrown. With its 600 plants, it will provide a biotope for wild bees and birds. Evergreen ivy, climbing hydrangeas, wild vines and rambler roses in different colors make the noise barrier not only an attractive habitat for a wide variety of creatures, but also pretty to look at. The noise barrier also has a positive effect on the climate: it binds carbon dioxide and fine dust and thus purifies the air in the surrounding area.
