Sustainable noise protection in Bonn

RAU® Climatewall for the Bonn Buschfeld development area

In the Bonn Buschfeld development area, a 450-metre-long and 3-metre-high green noise barrier of the RAU® Climatewall type was built along a busy traffic axis. The aim was to achieve lasting relief from traffic noise for local residents – in a sustainable, ecological and resource-saving way.

The RAU® climatewall is an innovative sound insulation system that meets the highest requirements in terms of noise protection, environmental compatibility and building economy. The greenery along the walls also promotes biodiversity and helps to improve the microclimate.

Job details & challenges:

The project involved the construction of a modular noise barrier without a complex deep foundation. Challenges arose in particular due to the limited space available and the location in the sensitive transition area between residential buildings and traffic areas. A precise analysis of the subsoil, the road layout and the course of the wall was essential in order to implement a technically and ecologically sound solution.

Project objective:

Reduction of traffic noise through the use of an innovative, low-CO₂ noise barrier with additional ecological added value. At the same time, fast construction times, minimal impact on the surroundings and high design quality were to be achieved.
