Green noise barrier in the "Luisenglück" district
Green noise barrier - RAU® Climatewall S for the Luisenglück district
As part of the urban development of the Luisenglück district in Dortmund-Hombruch, an innovative, green noise barrier is being created: RAU® Climatewall S in combination with RAU® Vista. It is intended not only to help reduce noise pollution, but also to integrate aesthetically into the surrounding landscape. The construction project is a central component of the overall concept for a sustainable living environment that spans generations.

Job details & challenges:
The planning and implementation of noise protection measures require a high degree of technical precision and individual adaptation. The challenge lies in particular in taking into account the specific conditions on site: varying ground conditions, limited space in some areas, integration into existing traffic and residential structures as well as ecological requirements for greening and biodiversity. The modular construction method enables flexible adaptation to these framework conditions. At the same time, the implementation places the highest demands on statics, durability and greening systems.
Project objective:
The aim of the project is to achieve an effective reduction in noise pollution through the construction of a green noise barrier and at the same time to make an aesthetically pleasing, ecologically valuable contribution to the design of the neighborhood. The noise barrier is intended to increase the quality of living and recreation in the neighborhood, create retreats for flora and fauna and contribute to a harmonious cityscape through its green design. At the same time, it sets an example for sustainable, future-oriented construction that combines ecological functionality and urban integration.
Results
- The wall specifically reduces noise pollution at sensitive points such as the daycare center and the senior center.
- With its natural greenery, the wall blends harmoniously into the landscape of the neighborhood.
- The modular elements used enable fast, flexible implementation, taking local conditions into account.
- The greening creates new habitats for insects and birds and contributes to ecological diversity in the neighborhood.
- The wall supports climate-resilient urban development through evaporative cooling, shading and dust binding.
- Despite the limited space available, it was possible to realize an acoustically and urbanistically effective solution with a high quality of stay.
