Noise barrier project in Bernau near Berlin
RAU® Climatewall Bernau - Sustainable noise protection on Schönfelder Weg
An innovative project was created on Schönfelder Weg in Bernau, Brandenburg: the construction of the RAU® climatewall to separate the Pankepark residential area from the adjacent industrial estate. The modular noise barrier sets new standards in terms of sustainability, carbon footprint and acoustic effectiveness – without any deep foundations.

Job details & challenges:
The aim was to create a noise protection solution that meets both the highest acoustic and ecological requirements. A central challenge was the combination of high stability, durable use of materials and maximum resource efficiency – realized with four statically tested cross-sections up to a wall height of 9.5 meters.
Project objective:
Results
- Sound insulation value of 68 dB and sound absorption of 20 dB demonstrate the excellent acoustic properties of the climatewall.
- Over 98% of the building material comes from local excavations and promotes circular construction.
- Components have a service life of up to 80 years.
- Over the course of its service life, the wall binds a hundred times its production emissions in CO₂.
